Evacuate：撤退、疏散

　　当地时间2004年9月12日，飓风“伊万”的风速达到了每小时240公里，在加勒比海的开曼群岛肆虐，造成一些房屋被淹，屋顶被掀翻，还有一些树木被连根拔起。据报道，“伊万”的强大威力给加勒比海地区带来了灾难性的破坏，目前已造成60多人死亡。

　　The hurricane, one of the strongest on record in the region, has killed at least 65 people across the Caribbean. About 1.3 million Cubans were evacuated from their homes, most taking refuge in the sturdier homes of relatives or neighbors ahead of its expected arrival on Monday.

　　Evacuate的意思是“撤退、疏散”。The village was evacuated because of the danger of a flood.（由于洪水的威胁，村里人都已撤走了）。In the war many children were evacuated from the cities to the countryside.（在战争中许多孩子从城市被疏散到农村）。
