M:What time is your train?

W:11:20. Oh. dear. It's already 11:00. I'm going to miss my train.

M:Don't worry. I'll drive you to the station.

     (Text 3)

M:Can I leave now. Mrs Smith?

W: Sure you can. But remember. if you don't pay more attention to your work and less to sports. you won't pass your examinations.

     (Text 4)

M:What can I do if I can't finish reading it in a week?

W: You may come and renew it.

     (Text 5)

W: You'd better bring your raincoat with you.

M: I don't have to. It doesn't look like rain. The sun is shining.

W: But these days it usually rains in the afternoon.

M:When I read newspapers and magazines. I often see the word“SOHO”—S-O-H-O. SOHO. But I don't know what it means. Could you explain it to me?

W:Well. SOHO means “small office and home office”. With the use of computers. more and more people work at their homes. They

needn't go to their offices.

M: Are computers that useful?

W: Yes. they are. People can work faster and better with the help of computers. But    they can also make a lot of people lose their jobs.

M: In this modern society. we have to learn more so as not to fall behind.

     (Text 7)

M:  So you're new here.

W: Yes. I'd like to be your secretary.

M: What work have you done before?

W: I was a nurse for six years. And then I worked in a bank. And I'm a secretary now.

M: How long have you been a secretary?

W: For one year. Since last September.

M: You have been a secretary for one year. In London?

W: No. I came to London nine months ago.

W: I think I heard it ring twice or three times.

M: Sometimes when the windows are open. you can hear the neighbor's phone.

W: Well. I'm expecting an important phone call. and I don't want to miss it.

M: Is it anything I should know about?

W: Not really. It has something to do with work and doesn't really affect us here.

M: Well. why don't you go ahead and do what you wanted to do outside?  I'll call you if the phone rings for you.

W: Thanks. I think I will. I've been waiting so long and now I'm getting nervous. I need to relax outdoors.

     (Text 9)

W: What can I do for you?

M: Well. I've just got off an international flight. Would you please give me some advice on how I travel in China?

W:  Do you mean to continue your journey?

M: Yes.I'm planning to travel to some famous places—Beijing. Xi'an and Guilin in China.

W: Well. that depends on how much time and money you're going to spend on your trip.

M: I see. I'm traveling at my own expense. so I want to save both time and money.

W: Oh. I know what you mean. Now that you are in Beijing. you should visit the GREat  Wall. the Summer Palace. the Palace Museum and Tian'anmen  Square as well.  During your stay in Beijing. you should make use of the underground which is faster and cheaper.

M: I'd like to go to Xi'an first. You know I have to come back to Beijing after I've finished all my traveling.

W: It's much cheaper to take a train to Xi'an than to fly. In my opinion. you should take the train to Xi'an and then to Guilin. You will not only save money but also have a beautiful scenic trip. After that. fly directly from Guilin to Beijing.

M: Good! That's a really good idea. I'll do as you have suggested.  Thanks a lot.

W: Not at all! Goodbye!

M: Goodbye!
