李佳薇6岁开始打球,右手横握球拍快攻结合弧圈打法。1990年进入北京什刹海体校,1994年进入北京队,1996年远赴新加坡,成为新加坡队的主力。
李佳薇的打法秉承了北京队横拍快攻的特色,技术风格类似当年的国手王燕生和滕毅。李佳薇的发球多使用反手位一个带“拱”的迷惑性动作的侧上、侧下旋发球,正手位可以用正胶发半下蹲发球。李佳薇接发球多用正胶突击或者直接劈长和对方打相持,相持中她的反手速度快、力量大、角度开,多使用压反手变正手的战术。
