President Jiang Zeming has urged the United States not to sell modern weapons to Taiwan. Mr. Jiang says he believes China and the United States could work to solve problems in their relationship. But he said the mistakes on the Taiwan issue could be harmful for the United States, China or Taiwan. The Chinese leader told the Washington Post newspaper that selling weapons to Taiwan could lead to war in East Asia. He said arm sales to Taiwan would only make the problem worse.
