It is important to write a good strong closing remark for your letter.   63    a specific request for an interview or give the possible employer something definite to do or expect. 第三部分:阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)
   阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
                           A
Online Communication
In an age when technology moves faster than most can keep up with, a small group of people still remain in the time of old—fashioned letters. Frankly speaking, I was once certain that traditional letters could never be replaced by other means of communication.
But a story about online communication changed my mind.
An old man, who suffered a lot from Parkinson’s disease, was not able to talk clearly and
could hardly write his name. Living totally alone, he managed to keep in touch with nearly all the members of his family. How did he achieve this? He clicked out words on his computer keyboard.
I, therefore, managed to get an E—mail box as soon as the opportunity came. My life changed.
E—mail, and all online communication, is something truly different. It has capacities that few other products can match.
E—mail is convenient. It takes less time with its fast speed and 24—hour connection. The slow postal service(邮政服务) is no match. If you wouldn’t want to have a face--to—face talk with your manager, you might talk with him through E—mail even if you are in the same office.
Naming all the good things about online communication is not easy. But sometimes |E—mail can be inconvenient. It can waste time and energy. Just think what may happen when you take a short vacation and return to find your E—mail box filled with 200 unread messages. You could easily spend half a day clearing junk ads.
Then, online communication will keep us staying at our computer while it connects us to distant strangers. Once we throw ourselves into the machine, we may forget the human touches we once held so dear. I’m sure there is and always will be a place for the old—fashioned letter, phone call, and face—to—face meeting… even in the world of modern communication.
As I listen to the sound of the modem(调制解调器), I was excited at stepping out to the outside world but, at the same time, I sensed a loss of control over something valuable in my personal life.
66.What is the most probable meaning of the underlined word “junk” in the passage?
  A. Old and useless      B. New and useful
  C. Short and valuable    D. Long and clear
67. What caused the writer to become interested in E—mail and online communication?
  A. The sound of the modem     B. His own illness
  C. The changing of his life      D. A sick old man’s experience
68. What does the writer think of online communication?
A.      It should replace old—fashioned letters completely
B.      It is perfect and always does good to you.
C.      It is extremely useful and convenient, but it may be inconvenient or even harmful.
D.     It does more harm than good.
69. According to the writer, traditional means of communication will never disappear because________.
A.      they are convenient and popular through they are slow.
B.      they help to keep the friendly relationship between people.
C.      most people can’t keep up with the development of technology.
D.     modern means of communication does too much harm.
70. How did the sick old man keep in touch with his family members?
A.      With the help of his computer.
B.      By writing letters with his pen.
C.      By making telephone calls.
D.     By visiting them regularly.
                                    B
It has been said that all Africans are born with musical talent. Because music is so important in the lives of many Africans and because so much music is performed in Africa, we probably think that all Africans are musicians. The impression is strengthened when we look at ourselves and find that we have become largely a society of musical spectators(观众). Music is important to us, but most of us can be considered consumers (消费者)rather than producers of music. We have recorders, TV, concerts and radio to meet many of our musical needs. In most situations where music is performed in our culture it’s not difficult to tell the spectators from the performers, but such is often not the case in Africa. Ablan Ayipaga, a Kasena musician from northern Ghana, says that when his flute (笛子)and drum group is performing , “Anybody can take part..” This is true, but Kasena musicians recognize that not all people are equally able to take part in the music. Some can sing along with the drummers, but few can drum and even fewer can play the flute with the group. It’s fairly common in Africa for there to be a group of expert musicians surrounded by others who join in by clapping, singing, or somehow adding to the totality of musical sound. Performances often take place in an open area ( that is, not on a stage) and so the lines between the performing actors and the additional performers, active spectators and passive spectators may be difficult to draw from our point of view.
71.The difference between us and Africans, as far as music is concerned, is that _____.
 A. most of us are performers while most of them are producers of arts.
 B. we are musical performers and they are expert musicians
 C. most of them are active while most of us are passive spectators
 D. we are the spectators while they are passive performers.
72. The underlined word such in the passage refers to the facts that _____.
 A. music is performed with spectators joining in
 B. music is performed without spectators joining in
 C. people try to tell the spectators from the performers
 D. people have recorders, TV, concerts and radio to meet their musical needs
73. The writer writes the passage to tell us that _____.
 A. all Africans are musicians and therefore much music is performed in Africa.
 B. not all Africans are born with musical talent though much music is performed in Africa
 C. most Africans are able to join the music by playing musical instruments
 D. most Africans perform as well as expert musicians
74. Which of the following is TRUE?
 A. All Africans are born musicians
 B. Most Africans don’t do well in playing the musical instruments along with the performers.
 C. African expert musicians never perform in the open air.
 D. It’s difficult to tell the spectators from the performers in Africa.
75. The best title for the passage would be _____.
 A. The importance of Music to Africans
 B. Differences Between African Music and Other Music of Other Countries
 C. The Relationship Between African Music and Other Music of Other Countries
 D. Differences Between African Musical Performances and Ours
                                 C
Technology has been an encouragement of historical change. It acted as such a force in England beginning in the eighteenth century, and across the entire Western World in the nineteenth. Rapid advances were made in the use of scientific findings in the manufacture (制造) of goods, which has changed ideas about work. One of the first changes was that other forms of energy have taken the place of human power. Along with this came the increased use of machines to manufacture products in less time. People also developed machines that could produce the same parts for a product: each nail(钉子) was exactly like every other nail, meaning that each nail could be changed for every other nail. This means that goods could be mass production, although mass production required breaking production down into smaller and smaller tasks.
Once this was done, workers no longer started on the product and labored to complete it. Instead, they might work only one thousandth of it, other workers completing their own parts in certain order. There is nothing strange about this manufacturing work by today's standards(标准). Highly skilled workers were unable to compare with the new production techniques, as mass production allowed goods of high standard to be produced in GREater number than could ever be done by hand. But the skilled worker wasn't the only loser, the common workers lost too. Similar changes forced farmer away. The increased mechanization (机械化) of agriculture freed masses of workers from ploughing the land and harvesting its crops. They had little choice but to stream(涌向) toward the rapidly
developing industrial centers. Increasingly, standards were set by machines. Workers no longer owned their own tools, their skill was no longer valued, and pride in their work was no longer possible. Workers fed, looked after and repaired the machines that could work faster than humans at GREatly reduced cost.
76. In this passage, which of the following is NOT considered as a change caused by the use of scientific findings in the production of goods?
A. Other forms of energy have taken the place of human power.
B. The increased exploitation(剥削)of workers in the 19th century.
C. The increased use of machines to make products in less time.
D. The use of machines producing parts of the same standard.
77. The underlined word “this” in the first paragraph refers to ____
A. the use of scientific findings
B. the practice of producing the same parts for a product
C. the human power being replaced by other forms of energy
D. the technology becoming the encouragement of historical change
78The underlined word “this” in the second paragraph refers to the change that ______
A. each nail could be taken the place of by every other nail
B. each nail was exactly like every other nail
C. producing tasks became smaller and smaller
D. goods could be mass produced
79.According to the writer, highly skilled workers ______
A. completely disappeared with the coming of the factory system
B. were dismissed by the boss
C. were unable to produce goods of high standard
D. were unable to produce fine goods at that same speed as machines
80.According to the passage, what did the farmers have to do with the coming of mechanization of agriculture?
A. Many of them had to leave their farmland for industrial centers.
B. They stuck to their farm work.
C. They refused to use machines.
D They did their best to learn how to use the machines.
                                     D
You Mi, a lovely and confident 17-year-old student, is the first Chinese high school student to appear on the cover of the popular young adults’ fashion magazine Seventeen.
“You is IN,” said Wang Lihua, Editor-in-Chief of Seventeen. “She is active and mature(成熟的)because of her knowledge on everything from academic studies, to

But this is not the only field she wants to master. Despite being a science student, You likes art, literature and fashion design very much.
“There are people who can be artists, there are people who edit books, and there are people who become film producers. But I just hope to mix all the things up!” she said. “There is an old saying I believe: Chance favours only the prepared mind.”
