竞赛试题中的“阅读理解”题，有的是要求“完成句子”，在试题的句子中填入适当的单词或短语。问题是根据短文内容而设，但一般需要填写的单词（短语）就在短文（或图表）中，我们也应尽量用文中原词。如（D）、（E）两题：
（D）题：请阅读下面三则关于奥地利、泰国和夏威夷的旅游广告，然后按要求完成36— 43小题。
Come to Austria！
Soll is a village in the mountains in western Austria，and the Hotel Post，opened by a local（当地的）family，is clean and not expensive．From the hotel you can see the whole village，the forest and the mountains．Temperatures in summer are usually 20℃to 25℃in the daytime， but much cooler by evening．

试题要求由两部分组成，前一部分的五个小题是“完成句子”题。通过阅读短文和所给的五个句子，我们可以初步判断，36小题与第1则广告有关；37、38和39小题分别与第2和第3则广告有关；第40小题则要把三则广告的“气温”进行对比才能填写。针对题目细读相关段落，从文中摘录恰当的词、短语。第 36小题应从第一段的“From the hotel you can see the whole village，the forest and the mountains．”中摘出“the whole village， the forest and the mountains”填空。第37小题，应从第二段的“There you can pay for them when you sit in your boat．”一句中摘出关键词“your boat”填空。第38小题，则需根据“Don't forget your hat：the sun can be strong and it may be as hot as 40℃about midday！”句子的意思，摘出“your hat”就行了。第39小题，要捕捉到“and mountains and forests in the north”，填写“mountains and forests”即可。第40小题，通过三段中有关“气温”的比较，我们能够判定应填写：Bangkok in Thailand或只写Thailand。
后一部分“判断题”（答案分别是：41．T 42．F43．D），这里不做具体分析。
（E）题：阅读下列关于美国十个州的统计数据，完成44—46小题。

本题是个读表题，要求我们根据表中的信息完成句子。本题虽然表格内容很多，乍一看，简直令人眼花缭乱，但试题却是十分简单，只要我们按照题目找到对应的内容，如实填写就行了。如第44小题，“The short for”意思是“……的缩写”，在表中找到“Vermont”，后面与之对应的“缩写”栏中是“VT”，抄在横线上即可。第45小题，先在“State Name”栏找到“New Jersey”，对应的“Capital City”中是“Trenton”。第46小题，先在“Joined Union”栏找到“1959”，与之对应的州名就是“Hawaii”。这样的试题答案不是手到擒来吗！
